English translation: capital

French to English translations [PRO]
Bus/Financial - Finance (general) / Venture capital
French term or phrase: Fonds social
Hi all,

This is taken from a commercial register extract and the title of the section is "Capital social / Fonds social" (followed by the value). The company is a venture capital firm.

Does anyone know what the difference between "fonds social" and share capital is?

Thanks,

David

Explanation:
In this context, I would say the difference between the two is technical and, for practical purposes, irrelevant. I would be tempted to simply use "capital".

But as the venture capital business has evolved over the past 30 years, the image .... the venture firm will be given enough shares to maintain its original equity ...

capital funds/equity

Explanation:
I think the difference here is:

capital social = registered share capital (i.e. as provided for the by the Articles of Association and registered at the RCI)

fonds social = actual capital funds at a given moment (which might not necessarily be the same as the registered share capital, e.g. if capital has been increased or decreased by a resolution of the shareholders)
