VTEC bead bounced out of waste bucket onto BSC work surface
An analyst working in the BSC, was putting VTEC cultures to plates from beads.
When discarding the bead into the waste bucket, 2 beads bounced off the bag ( inside the waste bucket) and landed on the hood work surface.
The hood and items inside were disinfected, swabbed and put out of service until VTEC results were confirmed.
Staff were reminded of proper procedure for the disposal of VTEC beads.
