campana de difusion

Spanish to English Bus/Financial Marketing
"YouFest es uno de los pocos proyectos con un 'sitio premium' dentro de YouTube, una campaña de difusión notable en el canal de media más masivo del planeta, y será transmitido en live streaming con una audiencia potencial de varios millones en España y el mundo."

Hi everyone,

This is Argentine Spanish, coming from a document presenting a new company for potential investors. The company focuses on the marketing and promotion of live music festivals involving YouTube stars, and many of its principal clients are advertisers.

"campaña de difusión" = dissemination channel/campaign?

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Helena Chavarria Dec 8, 2011:
I want to join in! YouFest is one of the few projects with a "prime spot" to have a marked advertising campaign on Youtube, the most popular media channel on the planet, and which will be broadcast live via streaming for a potential audience of several million viewers from Spain and around the world.
Lisa McCarthy Dec 8, 2011:
Hey James I love a challenge :)))

Here's my attempt, which I think sounds pretty natural :)

"YouFest is one of the few projects that holds a “prime spot” on YouTube, with a publicity campaign on one of the most widespread media channels in the world. The event will be broadcast via live streaming, and is expected to reach a potential audience of several million in Spain and across the world."

I'd love to hear... How anyone proposes incorporating these suggestions into any sort of natural-sounding English translation... Please feel free.

A definition of "advertise"

1. To make public announcement of, especially to proclaim the qualities or advantages of (a product or business) so as to increase sales. See Synonyms at announce.
2. To make known; call attention to: advertised my intention to resign.
3. To warn or notify: "This event advertises me that there is such a fact as death" (Henry David Thoreau).
v.intr.
1. To call the attention of the public to a product or business.
2. To inquire or seek in a public notice, as in a newspaper: advertise for an apartment.

Public relations campaign

Another option, especially if the campaign's wider objective is to familiarize people with YouFest and is not simply limited to selling something.

communication campaign

As far as I know, "difusión" doesn't mean "publicidad".

Spanish term (edited): campana de difusion notable

[Omit - Redundant]

I think it’s very difficult to incorporate “campaña de difusión” into any sort of natural-sounding sentence in English, whatever way you might translate it. I also think it’s implicit that anyone with a “premium account” on YouTube is going all out to try to promote/publicise/advertise themselves. Plus, the fact that they will be streaming live content to potential audiences via this “premium channel” indicates that they are a: promoting/publicising/advertising, and b: serious about their undertaking, which is further grounds to avoid trying to incorporate this rather clumsy “campaña de difusión” in my opinion. Therefore, I think I would weed this out as a redundancy.

By the way, you don’t have a “premium site” on YouTube, you have a “premium account” which you run your “premium channel” via...

That’s my two cents' worth anyway :)

“YouFest es uno de los pocos proyectos con un 'sitio premium' dentro de YouTube, una campaña de difusión notable en el canal de media más masivo del planeta, y será transmitido en live streaming con una audiencia potencial de varios millones en España y el mundo.”

“YouFest is one of the few projects with a "premium channel" on YouTube — the biggest video sharing site on the planet, and will be streaming live content to potential audiences of several million in Spain and around the world.”

Ha! Cheers Neil :)
neutral Simon Bruni : Hmmmm, really? I would say it's only partly implicit. Not all premium Youtube channels are used for 'campaigns', i.e. a concerted and strategic promotional effort. My local rugby club has one, for instance, and it's all pretty low-key.

Well I was thinking more of the potential investors this text is presumably intended for (see context). It would be implicit to them. And I think trying to include this would be clumsy and possibly off-putting to an English-speaking investor.
agree Joel Schaefer : I was leaning toward "promotional" but your conciseness seems better to me.

Thanks Joel. I tried every which way I could to try to include this in some way naturally, but couldn't. So this was my workaround.
disagree Henry Hinds : Omitting it because you cannot think of a good solution is not good translation.

That wasn't the reason I omitted it, Henry. As I said to Simon "trying to include this would be clumsy and possibly off-putting to an English-speaking investor". It's not a natural English construction. Period.
