Source text - Russian Ну вот, пишу тебе ночью.
Сейчас сгрызла горбушку в постели, теперь крошки не дают заснуть, разбежались по простыне и кусаются.
В окне над головой звездно-презвездно.
И Млечный путь делит небо наискосок. Ты знаешь, это похоже на какую-то гигантскую дробь. В числителе — половина Вселенной, и в знаменателе — другая половина. Всегда ненавидела эти дроби, числа в каком-то квадрате, в кубе, какие-то корни. Все это такое бестелесное, непредставимое, совершенно не за что ухватиться. Корень он и есть корень — у дерева. Крепкий, лезет, хватается, жрет землю, цепкий, сосущий, неудержимый, жадный, живой. А тут ерунда какая-то закорючкой, а туда же — корень!
И как можно понять минус? Минус окно — это как? Оно же никуда не денется. И то, что за окном.
Или минус я?
Такого же не бывает.
Я вообще человек всего, что можно потрогать.
И понюхать.
Понюхать даже больше. Как в книжке, которую папа читал мне в детстве перед сном. Есть разные люди. Есть люди, которые все время сражаются с журавлями. Есть люди с одной ногой, на которой они передвигаются стремительно, и у них настолько большая ступня, что они укрываются в ее обширной тени от солнечного зноя и отдыхают, словно внутри дома. А еще существуют иные люди, которые живут только запахами плодов. Когда им надо отправиться в дальний путь, они берут с собой эти плоды, а если почувствуют дурной запах, умирают. Вот это про меня.Понимаешь, все живое, чтобы существовать, должно пахнуть. Хоть как-нибудь. А все эти дроби и вообще все, чему учили, — не пахнет.
За окном какой-то полуночник сейчас бредет, футболя пустую бутылку. Звонкий звук стекла по асфальту на пустынной улице.
Разбилась.
Ночью в такие минуты так одиноко и так хочется быть хоть чему-то причиной.
И нестерпимо хочется быть с тобой! Обнять тебя, приласкаться.
А знаешь, что получится, если вот этот звездный числитель за окном поделить на знаменатель? Одну половину Вселенной на другую? Получусь я. И ты со мной.
Translation - English Well, here I am, writing to you at night. Just chewed on a bread heel in my bed, so now the crumbs are not letting me fall asleep; they’ve scattered around the sheets, biting.
It’s starry, so incredibly starry in the window above my head.
And the Milky Way splits the sky across. You know, it’s akin to some giant fraction. In the numerator - half of the Universe, in the denominator - another half. I’ve always hated those fractions, some square or cube numbers, these odd roots. All of it is so bodiless, so inconceivable, absolutely nothing to hold on to. A root is just a root - of a tree. Sturdy, it climbs, grabs, devours the earth; it’s tenacious, sucking, irrepressible, greedy, alive. And here is some kind of squiggled nonsense, also called a root!
So how can you comprehend “minus”? Minus window - what can it possibly mean? It won’t simply disappear. And everything outside of it too.
Or minus me?
There’s no such thing.
In fact, I’m an admirer of everything one can touch.
And smell.
Smells allure me even more. This reminds me of a book my dad was reading to me at bedtime as a child. There are all kinds of people. There are people who are constantly fighting cranes. There are people with one leg; they move about sweepingly, and have such a huge foot that they can hide from the sun’s heat in its vast shadow and rest as though they’re at home. There exists yet another kind of people, who live and breathe the fruit scents. When they have to go on a journey to a land far far away, they take these fruits with them; and if they sense a foul smell - they die. Now, that’s me.
You know, everything alive has to smell in order to exist. Anyhow. But all of those fractions and generally everything that’s being taught - they have no smell.
Outside my window, a random nightbird is dragging himself along, kicking an empty bottle. A ringing sound of glass shattering on the pavement of a deserted street.
It’s broken.
In such night hours, it’s so lonely that you want to be the reason for at least something to happen so badly.
And I want to be with you, so unbearably! Embrace, caress you.
But do you know what we get dividing that starry numerator in my window by its denominator? One half of the Universe by another half? We’ll get me. And you with me.

Source text - Ukrainian Головківка — наддніпрянське село неподалік від реліктового лісу Холодного Яру. З другої половини XX століття цілі родини головківців вирощують і продають на оптових ринках десятки сортів картоплі. Як і в декількох сусідніх селах, із 2014 року у Головківці створюють туристичні атракції — на базі звичайного, здавалося б, для українців продукту тут придумали «Картопляні розваги», що приваблюють дітей із різних міст.
Картопля (або бульба, бараболя, крумпля) — зовсім не етнічний продукт для України, адже його почали культивувати на її території лише у XIX столітті. Проте сьогодні цей овоч вирощують майже всюди на теренах країни, адже він входить до щоденного раціону більшості українців.
Але існують села, де картопля вважається не лише продуктом споживання. Одне з них — Головківка на Наддніпрянщині, де вирощуванням бараболі займаються цілими сім’ями. З 2014 року Головківка перетворилась ще й на «тематичне» село. Тут з’явився проєкт «Картопляні розваги», покликаний знайомити туристів із незвичними властивостями картоплі, а також її історією.
Тематичні села — концепція розвитку населених пунктів, що створює додаткові джерела доходу і зайнятості місцевої громади. Вона з’явилася у 80-х роках минулого століття в Австрії, згодом поширилася також Польщею і Німеччиною. Найбільш активно туристичні села розвивають у федеральній землі Нижня Австрія. Наприклад, в комуні Крумнусбаум на березі Дунаю створили «горіхове село» з тематичним фестивалем, а невеликий населений пункт Армшлаґ став «маковим селом», куди їдуть подивитися на квітучі поля і спробувати особливі страви з маком.
Translation - English Holovkivka is a village located in Naddnipryanshchyna region, not far from the old-growth forest of Kholodny Yar. Since the second half of the 20th century, the entire families of Golovkivka have been growing dozens of potato varieties and selling them on the wholesale market. Just like some of the nearby villages, Holovkivka has been developing its tourist attractions since 2014: on the basis of a seemingly usual Ukrainian food product, its inhabitants have created a “Potato attractions” project that engages with kids from different cities.
Potato (kartoplya or bulba, barabolya, kroomplya) is not an ethnically Ukrainian food product, as it only started being cultivated on its territory during the 19th century. However, today this vegetable is growing in almost every corner of the country, as it has become an integral part of every Ukrainian’s daily ration.
But in some Ukrainian villages, potato is something more than simply a food product. One of them is Holovkivka, a village located in Naddnipryanshchyna, where the craft of growing potato is practiced by entire families. Since 2014, Golovkivka has also become somewhat of a “thematic” village. A “Potato attractions” project was founded there with a mission to introduce tourists to the potato’s unusual qualities and its history.
Thematic villages is a concept used for the development of settlements, as it creates additional sources of income and employment for the local population. It was first introduced in Austria back in the 80s and later spread further to Poland and Germany. The federal province of Lower Austria is especially active in the development of such tourist villages. For example, the community of Krummnußbaum on the Danube river bank has set up a Nut Village with a thematic festival, while a small settlement of Armschlag has turned into a Poppy Village, where tourists can enjoy the blossoming fields and try out the poppy seed dishes.
