German term

Wahrnehmungshörtrennschärfe

German to English Social Sciences Psychology Dyslexia
Fehlerschwerpunkte lagen dabei in Wahnehmungsbereich überwiegend auf den Gebieten Wahrnehmungsdurchgliederung, sowie im Regelbereich auf den Gebieten Umlautableitung ....

This is concerning a patient who is suffering from dyslexia.

I have translated this for the moment as 'hearing selectivity of perception' which is just a literal translation.

Discussion

Armorel Young Sep 20, 2016:
precision I don't think you need to say "precision of auditory discrimination", since the idea of precision (i.e. the degree of discrimination) is already contained in the concept of discriminating.
philgoddard Sep 20, 2016:
This word doesn't get any Google hits, which suggests it's either a mistake or a coinage. If it's about auditory selectivity, the "Wahrnehmungs-" bit would seem to be redundant, since hearing is a form of perception.

Thankyou very much, Ramey. I didn't realise I had done that.
Ramey Rieger (X) Sep 20, 2016:
Hi Shane You accidentally left out the term when cutting and pasting your term question. Here's the whole sentence again:
Fehlerschwerpunkte lagen dabei in Wahnehmungsbereich überwiegend auf den Gebieten Wahrnehmungsdurchgliederung, Wahrnehmungshörtrennschärfe sowie im Regelbereich auf den Gebieten Umlautableitung ....

selective audio perception

auditory discrimination

Auditory discrimination is a central auditory processing skill that involves the ability to differentiate among phonemes—the smallest significant units of sound in a language.

I'd be cautious about using "selectivity" in this context as "perceptual selectivity" can be understood as referring to what we choose to tune into rather than what we are able to discriminate, so there's a subtle difference between the two.

precision of auditory discrimination

I agree with Armorel that 'selectivity' is inappropriate here but that still doesn't mean we can gloss over the Trennschärfe part
