I wonder if anyone has a suggestion for a poetic way of saying the above (full text below), literally saying that he is surprised, but really having writer´s block for putting it with the same mood. Would appreciate some help. Thanks!

breathless with wonder
Hi, it kind of depends on the rest of the sentence and what it is s/he is talking about. But perhaps these might help with the writer's block :-)
I feel breathless with wonder at...
or
XXX takes my breath away...
or
I feel awe-inspired by...
or
XXX knocks/sweeps me off my feet
...like I say, perhaps more context is needed here to get just the right pitch.

I feel the earth move under my feet
I agree that it really depends on WHAT he is talking about but this could work. It's a line from a carol king song. A bit more literal a translation.

I don't feel the floor beneath me/under my feet
As far as I know, "sento mancare la terra sotto i miei piedi" means I am feeling lost/bewildered. I am adding 2 quotations that demonstrate this meaning.
1. "Dire "mi sento mancare la terra sotto i piedi" è come dire "sono smarrito, mi sento sprofondare".

2. "c'è che, a 18 anni, si è sentito mancare la terra sotto i piedi, e per due giorni ha perso fiducia nel suo paese, ha avuto paura per il suo futuro..."
