In general. I guess people who voted for interpretation work with simultaneous interpretation, which is an exception. Regular interpretation jobs paid by the hour will never pay as much as translations. I gave them up for that reason. If you work with simultaneous, then I agree you can make a lot more money than the poor translators.

I almost exclusively do translation (or used to). These days I have been corned into reviewing and mentoring job by many agnecies and that is taking up a lot of my time. Since I charge them for these tasks almost as much as I would make translating, a lot of my income these days is coming this type of work.

While a simultaneous interpreting pays more in a single day than other language work, overall income depends on demand. There is more demand for some languages than others, for interpreters with multiple A languages, and for those that are highly proficient. I'd say that escort interpreting probably pays less than translation because the work is more sporadic.
