Th e study area is located on the Islands of Wolin and Uznam on the Pomera-nian Bay coast (Southern Baltic). In Poland, the barrier extends for 16 km. It consists of two sand spits formed between morainic plateau of these islands. At present, the entire barrier is covered by dune ridges formed since Atlantic period (5 000 BP).

Na osuszonym obszarze najwyższego tarasu, w zimnym i suchym klimacie peryglacjalnym, szybko zaczęły powstawać wydmy paraboliczne o ramionach skierowanych na zachód. Południowe ramiona wydm połączyły się tworząc wały wydmowe o długości ok. 8 km w przypadku południowego i ok. 6 km w przypadku północnego pasa wydmowego.
