I signed a LSP using Translation Workplace Aug 18, 2011

Several months ago, I pass their test and signed a contract with them.

When reading their induction materials, I find some online system in their ftp.

Among them their is Translation Workplace Editors (Offline Client), I open the built-in sample and translate a couple of lines.

All keyboard shortcuts resemble those of Trados Classic, I mean, those before Studio 09.

I chose ''other'' since I don't use any online tool for translation per se. I do however use Wordfast Anywhere for OCR-ing documents sometimes.

Not for work purposes.

I sometimes use Google translate to say "good night" or "happy birthday" in Russian though, since I don't have a cyrillic keyboard...

Not as a CAT tool Aug 18, 2011

I use online 'tools' all the time to help with my translations, but these are usually glossaries and other references. I tried Translation Workspace once. It was one of my favorite clients and they were paying, but I was not impressed. While it was simple to use, I found that I really missed some of the filtering and matching tools I had become accustomed to w/ Trados Studio. The worst problem was that I was terrified of losing network access or the system going down. Perhaps this is just a phob... See more

While it was simple to use, I found that I really missed some of the filtering and matching tools I had become accustomed to w/ Trados Studio. The worst problem was that I was terrified of losing network access or the system going down. Perhaps this is just a phobia of mine, but I take my deadlines very seriously and would hate to miss one because I lost internet access. The wifi at nearby coffee shops is slow, insecure, and closes by 9 to 10 pm. That is when I am just getting into my stride.Collapse

Sometimes Google translator is helpful when you get a messy English text with the Chinese/Japanese etc. original included...

It's always harder to try to fix a lousy translation than to do it from scratch.

Online translation tool vs. automatic translation Aug 19, 2011

I see that many people answer no because they believe online translation tool is the same as automatic translation, but the two are not synonyms.
