GUIDELINE AND PLANNING DOCUMENT PREPARATION
The poor condition of drinking water and sanitation is giving a bad impact not only to adults, but
children also. Moreover, children are actually the most susceptible group exposed to the impact
of poor drinking water and sanitation. Whereas children are valuable assets in continuing the
development. Therefore, an improvement in drinking water condition, sanitation, also clean and
healthy living behavior at children level need to be prioritized.
One of the impact caused by the absence of good drinking water, sanitation also, clean and healthy
living behavior is the emergence of children disease, resulting in the absence of children from school.
One way to solve the problem is by the implementation of the drinking water condition, sanitation,
also clean and healthy behavior improvement program for students or school equipment.
The drinking water condition, sanitation, also clean and healthy behavior improvement program
for students or school equipment (herein after school sanitation) has been conducted plenty of
times by various parties. Not only by the government through related department, such as the
Ministry of National Education, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Public Works, the Ministry of
Religion and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but also other institutes outside of the government, are
implementing this program. Although many programs have been implemented, but in application, up
to this day all of the school participants are still working on their own. The non establishment of good
communication and coordination, resulting in the overlapping of the program implementation.
As one of the way to support a successful school sanitation program, AMPL Network has hold
a facilitation to unite all of the school sanitation participants to do a consolidation. Through
the facilitation which also support the previous Indonesia Plan, the consolidation produces the
Indonesian School Sanitation program participants map, concept and grand design. This consolidation
is expected to be able to improve the communication and coordination among the school sanitation
participants. With the establishment of good communication and coordination, synergism in the
school sanitation program implementation is expected to occur and able to generate a wider impact.
However, to generate a wider impact in the sanitation development, especially by making the
school as the center of excellence, need to be supported with a strategic and well targeted planning.
Therefore, we need a guideline that can be used by the participants in implementing the school
sanitation program in Indonesia.
The objectives of this school sanitation guideline and planning document preparation implementation
are as follow:
1. To increase supports and commitments of all the shareholders in sanitation development;
2. To provide guidelines for all of the shareholders in order to achieve the sanitation development
target, especially the school sanitation.
The outcomes expected of this activity are:
1. The availability of School Sanitation Program planning documents (road map) and guidelines or
modules (technical or implementation guidelines);
2. The implementation of consultation meeting with the relevant shareholders to obtain some inputs
and agreements.
