The site proved to be quite a haul with the following items discovered: six shoulder fired surface to air missiles; two rocket propelled grenade launchers; 14 rocket propelled grenades; three mortars; four mortar rounds; 31 land mines; 55 hand held grenades; three mine clearing charges; two anti-tank rocket launchers; one heavy machine gun; and 4,239 rounds of small arms ammunition. All the weapons were removed to another location after being identified by EOD.

WASHINGTON — The 41-year-old Russian rocket-propelled grenade — the RPG — was built as an anti-tank weapon, but it\'s been playing havoc with American helicopters.

Anti-American forces used RPGs to bring down two MH-47 Chinook helicopters fighting in the Shah-e-Kot area of Afghanistan on Monday. Seven U.S. soldiers were killed in the attacks and ensuing firefights. Several AH-64 Apache gunships were also hit by RPGs, but none crashed.

How Rocket-Propelled Grenades Work
You may have heard the term rocket-propelled grenade, and you\'ve probably seen news images of their use and the destruction they can cause, particularly if you\'ve kept up with current world events in the Middle East. Rocket-propelled grenades are a commonly used explosive projectile weapon, used by many armies across the world. They play a major part in contemporary warfare, and are also highly used among insurgent and terrorist groups.

But why? Why are rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) so prevalent? Where did they come from and just how do they work? It\'s obvious they\'re more than just a normal grenade simply because they\'re rocket propelled, but just what does that mean? In this article, we\'ll investigate the origins of rocket-propelled grenades, how they\'re used and what makes them so common in military conflicts all over the world.

SERBIAN GHETTO IN PRISTINA ATTACKED BY A ROCKET PROPELLED GRENADE

PRISTINA, Yugoslavia, Oct 23 (AFP) - Unidentified attackers
fired a rocket-propelled grenade on Monday at the last Serbian
community remaining in the Kosovo capital Pristina , the NATO-led
peacekeeping force said.
British commandos at the scene said the RPG appeared to have
been fired across an area of waste ground by a block of apartments
occupied by Serbs. No-one was believed to have been injured, they
said.

Russian-made RPG-7V1 Rocket-Propelled Grenade Launcher

Like most Russian made weapons, the RPG-7V1 rocket launcher is cheap, reliable, and effective. It is a portable, shoulder fired anti tank weapon. Based upon the earlier RPG-7, the V1 variant is a highly improved version, firing a more effective selection of grenades. The first type is a single stage high-explosive warhead capable of penetrating 600mm of steel armor, as opposed to the original RPG-7 which was only capable of penetrating 300mm. The second warhead is a tandem high explosive grenade capable of penetrating reactive armor.

rocket launcher

or bazooka
e.g.
The M20 was an improved version of the original anti-tank rocket launcher, nicknamed the bazooka, designed and used by the US Army during the Second World War. The M20 could be used against both tanks and stationary targets, such as bunkers. Against tanks it had a maximum effective range of 110 metres but it could be used against stationary targets up to 1,200 metres away. Australian infantry companies used the M20 to good effect against North Korean T-34 tanks in the fighting in late October 1950. At Chongju a bazooka team from 3 Platoon, A Company, 3 RAR destroyed three T-34s.
