Portuguese term

Estado

Portuguese to English Bus/Financial Law: Taxation & Customs bitcoin

I'll only believe it when I see the voting sheet without his name. Until then, it's a big question mark. It's still Brazil.
Gilmar Fernandes Apr 6, 2018:
Nick, I was the first to propose a term with the word government....where's my "agree" ?
ha...ha......BTW, talking about bastards in govt. Brazil is finally going to send the biggest corruption leader of them all to prison.....yeah....it's about time!!
Lilian Magalhães (asker) Apr 3, 2018:
country Ah, o texto é para a Inglaterra, não EUA
Lilian Magalhães (asker) Apr 3, 2018:
State hi guys, in the contexto, "Estado" refers to the national centralized government, nothing else. just FYI
Mario Freitas Apr 3, 2018:
Yes, sir I'm not suggesting the use of State in the USA in this sense, Gilmar. I just said "national government" is an incomplete solution, for the reasons I mentioned.
Gilmar Fernandes Apr 2, 2018:
@Mario Like I said, Lillian will have to check where her translation is going. If for the United States, I strongly recommend another term other than State. I grew up in New York and lived there for over 35 years (yes, I'm an old guy:) and hardly ever heard State with the connotation of country/government. It's a term used internationally for sure, but in the U.S. it would be ambiguous, confusing because it automatically conjures up state as in NY, California, etc. Just my suggestion....
Mario Freitas Apr 2, 2018:
@ Gilmar But the State encompasses more than the national government, too. All authorities of all powers, including state and county/municipal governments, and police and other enforcement agencies, as well as instrumentalities, are all included in the concept of State when the issue has to do with "interference" or intervention by the State. So national government may be an incomplete solution.
Gilmar Fernandes Apr 2, 2018:
State in the U.S. is not used with this connotation of country as it's used in Europe and other countries. In the U.S. state (whether or not capitalized) refers mostly to individual states (NY, California, etc.) Yes, I know "Member-State" is widely used internationally.....so one has to check the target audience (U.S. or Europe).

It is the first time a national government has used the bitcoin blockchain to secure and validate official actions, signifying a vote of confidence for a technology still somewhat tainted by an early association with illicit activity.

State (capitalized)

Assim como em PT, State com letra maiúscula refere-se à União, aos poderes nacionais, ao Estado.
