Portuguese term

abóboda

Portuguese to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial Furnace construction
This term is regarding part of the refractory lined chamber of a glass smelting furnace.
I have some doubts about the correct technical term in English for this: i.e. Dome, Cupola, Archway etc?

can be.. can be dome or crown
So Nick, why isn´t ceiling used as Margarida asked For me, the "ceiling" of a kiln/furnace, or the cupola, is the liner/lining. Never heard of a ceiling. Is the term ever used in this case?

Hi Andrew I work in this field

And If I were to translate this my self, I have no doubt what so ever that I would use abóboda = cupola

an arched structure that forms a roof or ceiling
Na dúvida, arch shaped roof... supported by the walls of the kiln/furnace
Quem sabe... LOL

s. f. || forma pop. e ant. de abóbada.

Note from asker:
Thanks Nick, looks like this is the accepted term, although Margarida found a link referring to "vault", it would appear that cupola is used in a specific type of furnace (which i think is the case in question here) and maybe Margarida's suggestion is a sort of generic term?
Thks again Nick, amazing feedback and reaction this one has caused, but always good to get this feedback!

Comment: "Thks Nick, amazing feedback from everyone on this, and I think everyone was correct to a certain point, depending on the context u looked at it, I think yours hit the nail, as it sort of covered the whole chamber, but within that chamber there are arches and domes - com certeza!"
