German term

wenn auch von sozial erwünschten Angaben auszugehen ist

German to English Social Sciences Psychology CBT for return to work
The patient has been undergoing therapy to overcome the social anxiety she suffers from at work. At the end of the treatment she is given a battery of tests to measure the results. RCI = Reliable Change Index

My draft:
The differences observed between the start of treatment and follow-up clearly exceed the calculated critical differences; the RCI was in the significant range (RCI ≥ 1.96) for all scales, even if socially desirable information is assumed.

My translation of the last bit makes no sense. There is no mention in this article otherwise of "socially desirable" data or information.

Thanks!

Mit Steffen + Marcel "Angaben" needs to be read here as "answers" (by the patient to the test questions).

cf. Wikipedia:
Social desirability bias is a social science research term that describes the tendency of survey respondents to answer questions in a manner that will be viewed favorably by others. It can take the form of over-reporting "good behavior" or under-reporting "bad", or undesirable behavior. The tendency poses a serious problem with conducting research with self-reports, especially questionnaires. This bias interferes with the interpretation of average tendencies as well as individual differences.

The patient wants the doctor to like his/her answers (he/she gives the answers s/he thinks the doctor wants to hear).
Steffen Walter Aug 18, 2016:
Bias It appears to me that the author of your text refers to a (potential) bias introduced by the patient responding in a way that could/should be "expected" at the end-of-treatment stage from a social point of view (e.g. to make an impression of having recovered/improved as a result of the treatment).
