German term

Folgetechnologien

German to English Tech/Engineering Energy / Power Generation Organic photovoltaics
This appears in a table of contents for a magazine that talks about organic photovoltaic technology, solar energy systems etc. Unfortunately, what I have is just a list, so I don't know the actually content of this particular article.

I'm not too sure how best to translate this. I am considering knock-on technology at the moment, but perhaps someone has a better idea?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you, dkfmmuc for sharing your insight.
dkfmmuc Aug 24, 2011:
I am not completely sure but the "Weiterentwicklung" has the meaning of small amendments, small enhancements and slightly changed product features. The Folgetechnologie is more a quantum leap or a major step towards the future with more than smaller enhancements.
casper (X) Aug 24, 2011:
I've been wondering What is the difference between 'Folgetechnologie' and 'Weiterentwicklung'?

Steffen Walter Aug 24, 2011:
@ Nicola - very good "Next-generation technology/ies" might fit just perfectly.
dkfmmuc Aug 24, 2011:
@Nicola Wood: Next generation technology as an answer would be fine. Please provide it and I will agree.
dkfmmuc Aug 24, 2011:
Is the term "succession technology" used ? Just think about this solution. Would be more emphasizing the time passing by and would be near to Ramey Rieger´s subsequent technology. What´s your opinion about this term ?
Sarah Bessioud (asker) Aug 24, 2011:
@ Steffen The list of topics contains very diverse headings, such as "Technik", "Modultechnik", "Produktentwicklung", "Innovationsprozess" - as well as management-related topics (operations, sales, personnel, negotiation etc.)
Steffen Walter Aug 24, 2011:
Other categories Does your list include other types of technology, such as "pioneering/ground-breaking t.s"?

follow-on technology

This is a phrase I have heard in relation to the technology that comes next after the present one. Google searches indicate that it is often used in a software and IT context.

Hi Jeux de Mots! Here's my 2 cents worth, hope it helps!
