German term

durchwirken

German to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
It's all still a bit of a mess so I welcome any suggestions of the whole thing.

Platons Sicht instituiert kein einfaches, unthematisches

Plato’s view does not institute a simple, unthematic seeing of the attendees, no arraignment of the Unhidden as noetic experience, but rather initiates the rigidifying of seeing to this specific, thematic image, to the image’s testimony, to the technically *durchwirkten* image.
Proposed translations (English)
3 +1 to interweave / interwoven
2 +1 superimposed (composite) image

Discussion

Francis Lee (X) Feb 4, 2005:
Just to confirm - this involves actual drawings?
Non-ProZ.com Feb 4, 2005:
more context I welcome other suggestions, but Steffen seems on the right track as the context is a type of drawing on top of drawing until the paper is thick with lines, and you get something like an "interwoven" image.

German term (edited): durchwirken / durchwirkt
Selected

to interweave / interwoven

for "durchwirken/durchwirkt", hence a "technically interwoven image"
Peer comment(s):

agree Armorel Young : and surely "Sehen des Anwesenden" is just "seeing that which is present" (a parallel to "Vernehmen des Unverborgenen)?

Yes, that would make perfect sense.
neutral Francis Lee (X) : just because durchwirken = interweave, you can't assume "technically interwoven image" makes sense in English (which it doesn't to me) // naja - die hätten das durchaus besser ausdrücken können, wa ?(yup - my first thought was: "what the f**k?")

Your suggestion seems also good. Gegenfrage: Does the German really make sense to you? // ADD: Irrtum, mein Lieber - die wollten das wahrscheinlich ganz bewusst nicht besser (= klarer) ausdrücken ;-)

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Both suggestions could work here. Yes Francis, it's drawing on top of a drawing on top again etc. until the lines are a big "mess". So on one hand the images are superimposed but on the other sort of all woven together. Thanks both of you."

superimposed (composite) image

From your description, this sounds a lot more like "superimposed" (vertically) than "interwoven"

But I'm not sure without more detailed context (convenient excuse ;-)
Peer comment(s):

agree Steffen Walter : That may well be a good solution ;-) (but you never know with these high-falutin' philosophical treatises)

aye - esp. when you see this sort of convoluted construing ("noetische Erfahrung" - ich bitte dich!)
