I'm having trouble translating the word "Drehbahn" into English. It is used in the sentence below:
Auf der Drehbahn können wir im traditionellen Verfahren Kordeln, Seile und Schnüre anfertigen.
As far as I can understand it is somewhere that cords and ropes are produced. If anyone has any suggestions of an English translation I would be very grateful!

: I've never heard of that before! "Ropeyard" is another possibility.

Thanks, Phil. Could it be that ropeyard is more US EN?

: Fascinating discoveries... (neutral only cos it all lks convincing & I can't add to that) - @ Jonathan, I u/stand why you're asking, but then how big is the ropemaking-cognoscenti community in D.? Best/ S
Wendy, no, not unconvinced, on contrary!& ->Discsn

: That's the way to make your case: original-language sources on both sides. Wish more kudoz were done like this. ("Ropewalk" is absolutely US EN as well.) Phil's rope yard is fine too; might be 2 words, not sure.

"rope making area" would at least be understood by all readers.

Discussion
Jon., my argument re. (un)familiarity of Eng. suggested terms to non-cognoscenti is pro, not con: because the same specialisation applies to the German, I suspect; and I'd trust a wider readership's curiosity/interest suffices to look it up. Far less 'hairy' than, say, media-art-critic specialised lingo cos that tends to be a kind of red-herring specialisation (not of field or of need to have mots justes, but of language writhing under peer, 'status' pressure, and loss of readability. That dsn' apply to the case in hand.)
Find "rope walk" (not hyphenated) in both.
