WHAT DOES GATOR MEAN?

Discussion

Tony M Jan 6, 2005:
I guess it means these shoes have built-in provision to attach 'gators', and presumably it is designed to suit different makes / types of 'gator'. In other words, these shoes are compatible with [= can be used in conjunction with...] 'gators'
Non-ProZ.com Jan 6, 2005:
but what does it mean? it does not make any sense to me? what does it mean they are gator compatible?

gaiter

Gaiters are a protective covering for a boot or shoe - to keep out rain, snow or in the tropics to protect from snakebites. Seems it is fashionable to call them 'gators' (which is usually a nickname for alligators. See the two links which illustrate 'gator'. On the second link, go to 'foot system' or look up gaiter on google - lots more of the same.

neutral juvera : Like the name, from gaiter to gator, it is changing from shoe covering into insert.... Answer to "yeswhere": I said changing, like the name, meaning: you can find both!

check out 'the poles' website - the 'gators' are on the outside!
agree Will Matter : there are no 'gators' here, the original text meant "gaiters". Sounds the same, different meaning.
