Otro efecto muy importante en psicofísica es el efecto de la fundamental perdida (missing fundamental), por el cual la percepción del tono de un conjunto de armónicos es idéntica al tono de la frecuencia fundamental a partir del cual han sido generados, aunque esta no exista realmente.
Es decir, que aunque la información no se encuentra en la onda física real, el cerebro humano es capaz de reconstruirla y percibirla como si estuviera."
