hasn't the term already been translated in this outline? at any rate, my reading of it is that this course prepares students to become international, non-military peace brokers who will nevertheless have a military understanding of the issues at stake.

PS therefore I think "peace worker" would be better than "peace operator". Anyway in Italian "operatore" just means,,,anyone who does something!

Piotr, I agree that if not correctly translated this might seem like military operations ("War as peace" in the orwellian sense). I think it refers to training people as peace-workers for NGOs etc. I happen to know some people who do this type of work.

peace operations Doesn't "peace operations" imply that it is about military peacekeeping actions? If it does than "peace work" would be actually closer to the original meaning even though it doesn't sound as professional as "peace operations". Please let me know what you think.

University Master's Degree in "International Peace Operators"

The part in inverted commas has necessarily been translated fairly literally. Some people omit the apostrophe on masters

Operators is just as stupid in the orginal Italian as it is here, but it IS in inverted commas, so obviously there is a reason which we don't know and it is un "Master" un titolo di studio, a degree and not a course. University is of course probably redundant, but it does get 33,000 hits plus on the Iternet, so it is very funny that all those universties are being so terribly "literal". Paul the guy wants the most accurate translation not a poem. Gosh life is hard at the top!

disagree Paul O'Brien : no need for "university" (too literal) and the preposition "in" jars with "international peace operators". would mean they study the operators, not how to become one. when you tell me your dad had an MA in history i know it's from a uni.
