Fair - stay - 'n
I'm not an expert in phonetic pronunciation, but hopefully the above should give you an idea. The emphasis is on the middle syllable.
The word is the German for 'to understand' and also 'understanding'.

Oops, sorry, I get so used to the German stuff that I forget how we English pronounce things! The German \'st\' is pronounced as a \'scht\', so it would be more accurate to pronounce it as \'Fair - \'schtay - \'n.

not an answer, just a note about pronunciation
maybe it would help to make it ''shtay'n, as the Englisch 'sch' could be confusing versus German 'sch', which would be more like 'sh' in English.

: The English 'sch' can be pronounced as in school or scheme, so 'sh' is better.
