phrase from Anne Frank's Diary
"A person can be lonely even if he is loved by many people, because he is still not the 'One and Only' to anyone."
The very same phrase was translated to Polish in a somehow more poetic and gender neutral way. The Polish translation, after translating into English would be:
"If a person is for nobody
that dearest and the only one,
then they feel lonely
even when loved by many people."
Since it is going to be used as a motto in a book, a "gender neutral" and "poetic" version would work much better. The question is if it is not too distant from the original? If it is - could you propose something that would be close to the original and at the same time, if not poetic, at least gender neutral?
