Bio

I am a Spanish < > English translator specializing in education with 22 years of study in the former language and 10 years of translation experience. Many of my translations have been educational materials, including those of a technical nature, such as IEPs and psychoeducational evaluation reports. I have also translated a wide range of documents that include affidavits of domestic abuse victims, a cookbook for homeless individuals in shelters, a music school website, a COVID situation report for the Washington State Department of Health, diplomas, certificates, as well as housing and medical documents. In addition, I worked for a year as a community interpreter with a focus on school settings, for such purposes as IEP meetings and student cognitive evaluations.

Regarding my language work in other areas, I have tutored Spanish to students of various ages and levels. I worked previously as a bilingual paraprofessional at Ellis Elementary School, helping to explain academic concepts in Spanish to my native-speaking third grade students.

Academically, I graduated summa cum laude from Bates College with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. I completed a community interpreting certificate program in June 2014 and a medical interpreting certificate program in February of the following year with Language Connections. As a result of my performance in the latter program, I was chosen for a 40-hour medical interpreting internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital, which I completed in July 2015.

Finally, I have spent a great deal of time in the Spanish-speaking world. I have lived in Peru for over six years, and I studied previously at la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú for a year in college. Additionally, I have visited Panama, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Spain.
