Experience
Years of experience: 11. Registered at ProZ.com: Jun 2012. Became a member: Jun 2019.
An Irish citizen, I was brought up and educated in England, and spent
most of my working life in England, before moving to France nineteen years
ago, where I live with my French companion. I am fully integrated into my
village society, sing in two choirs, and am a volunteer running English
conversation workshops for francophones.
I have eight years experience of professionally translating
texts from French to English including history books, museum information
panels, a beautician’s blog, tourist information guides and websites, a civil
engineering marketing brochure, safe working practice guides in mines, music reviews for a streaming company, and a processed food factory
website. I consider myself a genuine all-rounder. My most recent project is translating music player comparisons.
My working hours are flexible so I never miss a client's deadline. I prefer to translate freely, to create the same intentions and emotions as the original text, rather than literal word-for-word translations.
In addition to translating, I also offer proof reading and editing machine translations. I work with Trados Studio, MS Word and MS Excel.
My earlier working life was as a Financial Controller in industry. I
hold two diplomas in accountancy and management and am qualified in both practice
and industry; past employers include IBM, Westland Helicopters, Sir Robert McAlpine
and AFME for whom I oversaw the merger of two health charities.
I keep fit walking my dog, cycling,
skiing and playing golf. My other interests are music, history, architecture,
cooking and old motorcycles. I have been a teacher in three
branches of martial arts and visited Japan to study with a sword master. I enjoy languages, and play Scrabble in English or French.
