Bio
“If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.”
― Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela’s wise words were not meant to define translation, but they can very well be applied to the term. Translation is not just about communicating a message in another language; it’s about ensuring the message is meaningful, significant, more than just words – that’s what I do when I translate.

When I retired from education, translating became the obvious new path for me. I did plenty of research before making the choice. Once I did, I decided to join ProZ.com and Translatorbase. I am constantly taking courses and seminars, and reading about translation to keep up with the latest. I have a professional translator credential which allows me to translate to and from English and Spanish.

As a student, I was immersed in two languages, English and Spanish, throughout my school years and college. I developed a passion for languages, which includes French, but not at a translating level.

As a working adult, I became a language teacher. I taught English at all levels from 1st grade to 12th grade. I also taught English as a second language to English learners and Spanish to non-Spanish speakers. The last 18 years of teaching and coordinating the Bilingual Program were in Los Angeles, California where my daily interaction with students from so many Spanish-speaking countries allowed me great insight into the many variants of the Spanish language; students from Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, El Salvador, just to name a few, and I enjoyed comparing our language variants. I translated many documents for the administrators, for department chairs and for other teachers. I also did many interpretations at parent-teacher meetings. As a program coordinator, I did my own presentations in both languages.

I look forward to being of service to you. You will not regret it.
