Действительно, термин Achse очень часто встречается именно в таком значении, отсутствующем в словарях, причём не только в контексте станков с ЧПУ, но и везде, где речь идёт о точном перемещении и позиционировании. Поначалу ставит в тупик, так как словарное значение явно противоречит контексту. Когда столкнулся первый раз, пришлось немало погуглить, прежде чем докопался до адекватного варианта перевода.
