G'day everyone

I saw a link to an audio greeting on a ProZ.com member's page and clicked it. It opened a separate browser window with something that looked like a crashed plugin. I tried opening the audio greeting in a different browser, and it told me that I needed a plugin, but when I tried to get the plugin, the browser said that it could not determine what plugin is needed.

1. So... what plugin must a visitor have in his browser to be able to listen to an audio greeting on ProZ.com?

2. Is the audio greeting streamed? If not, then why not simply give visitors a direct download link to the audio file? If the visitor's browser supports it, it plays the sound. If not, it offers the visitor a download/open dialog so that the user can choose the appropriate program on his computer to play the sound. Alternatively, have two links to the greeting on the profile page -- one that offers embedded greeting (call it "listen to live greeting") and one that links directly to the sound file (call it "download greeting").

The same goes for videos, I should imagine.

3. Also, I'm curious about what people say in such greetings. Is there a way to tell (in the directory search results) if a translator has an audio greeting on his profile page?

Thanks
Samuel

Edit: Thanks to Chrome, which downloaded the audio file (unfortunately without asking me), I know that the audio greeting that I was trying to listen to was a standard Windows WAV file.

Edit 2: I googled for ProZians with "Audio Greeting" and found about 60 (but there must be more, that Google didn't catch). Of them, 15 had just a music file as a "greeting". 20 of them had a "404" message inside the plugin window. And 25 of them had an actual message, ranging from 2 seconds of saying "hello" to 4 minutes of voice-over samples. Less than 10 were worth listening to.

Yes, that's an option. I've done the same on my Proz profile voiceover page:

http://www.proz.com/?sp=profile&eid_s=24312&sp_mode=ctab&tab_id=2492

It's possible but not very convenient and therefore it would great to be able to upload audio files directly and streamline them in our profiles.

Here's a word of advice: don't autoplay media in the browser. Autoplay went out of fashion in 2003 along with flashing red letters on white backgrounds, and I don't know of anyone who misses it. I for one instantly close any tab that autoplays a sound unless I really really need to get something done on page.
