It is a six (6) hour course divided into three two-hour modules. This basic course will focus on the importance of localization (L10n for short), the differences between L10n and internationalization (i18n for short), L10n techniques and tools.

The training starts when you book and ends when you have completed the assignments that conclude each module. You are the one who determines the timing. E-mail and Skype support will also be available on request, as well as a ProZ forum for group discussion purposes.

Understanding L10n

Module Three
Localizing for a living
- How should a translator approach a localization project?
- Ask the right kind of questions first: what is it that the client actually wants?
- How should I charge, per word or per hour?
- To work in a team or not work in a team, that is the question
- Feedback and reasoning: the importance of being earnest

| Mariènne Botha | | Bio: In 2000, Mariènne completed a National Diploma in Language Practice, after which she obtained a BA Hons in French Translation in 2002. After studying in France, she had an epiphany: even within seemingly homogeneous communities, cultures shift. One of her goals in life is bring to light the extraordinary differences between the self and the closest other. She has been translating and localising her way through numerous research questionnaires, user manuals, websites, user interfaces and software programmes over the past five years. She also dabbles in instructional design and writing children's stories.
