Source text - English A single-lens-reflex (SLR) camera is so named because you view, compose, focus, and take a picture through a single lens with the help of a reflex mirror. You can’t see directly through the lens, because the film and shutter are in the way; they have to be positioned right behind the lens to do their job. So the SLR redirects the light from the lens to your eye with a reflex mirror, focusing screen, pentaprism, and viewfinder (see the illustration on the following page).
Reflex mirror. The reflex mirror is located in the camera body right behind the lens and in front of the film. It’s positioned at a 45-degree angle; when light comes through the lens, the mirror reflects it upward. The mirror also is hinged; when you press the shutter button, it flips up and out of the way as the shutter opens, permitting light to expose the film. The mirror then quickly flips back into position, so you can view the subject and take another picture. It’s this flipping action that creates most of the noise you hear when you take a picture with an SLR—and it also may cause the camera to vibrate somewhat. The reflex mirror has another important function. All lenses naturally proj- ect an image that is upside down and laterally reversed, so that the left side of the picture is on the right and the right side is on the left; for example, words read backwards and upside down (see the illustration on the following page). The reflex mirror turns the image right side up to allow you to view your subject more easily, but it doesn’t correct the lateral reversal. That comes later.
Focusing screen. Light reflected upward strikes a focusing screen, a textured sheet of thin plastic or glass. This is where the right-side-up (but still laterally reversed) image forms for you to view and focus. The screen is positioned at exactly the same total distance from the lens as it is from the film. Thus, when you’ve focused the image on the focusing screen, it also will be in focus on the film.
With most SLRs, the focusing screen is nonremovable, but in some advanced cameras you can choose from a variety of screen types. There are screens that are brighter than others for easier viewing and focusing; screens with a split- image circle or other features to help focus; screens with grid lines, used by architectural photographers and others who want a guide for precise composi- tion; and various other types.
Pentaprism. The hump on the top of the camera body incorporates a pentaprism, which is a prism or mirror system that reflects and directs the image from the focusing screen to a viewfinder. It also allows you to hold your camera at eye level for viewing. Without a pentaprism you would have to look down at the focusing screen to view and focus. By reflecting and directing the image, the pentaprism also corrects the image’s lateral reversal, so it matches the orig- inal subject—the left side of the subject is now on the left and the right side is on the right.
The pentaprism also is usually integrated with the camera’s through-the-lens meter and exposure controls, and reflects the displays of f-stop, shutter speed, and other meter settings and markers you see when looking through the viewfinder.
SLRs are available for different film formats. Most models are 35mm, but there also are many medium-format SLRs, as well as digital SLRs. One reason SLRs are so popular is that they accept a wide variety of accessories, such as interchangeable lenses and close-up equipment. With many other camera types your choice of accessories is far more limited or nonexistent.

Las SLR están disponibles para diferentes formatos de películas. Muchos modelos son de 35mm pero también hay tanto para formatos medios de SLR como digitales. Sin embargo, no necesariamente lo que cada unidad económica posee es lo que desea con mayor intensidad o lo que le resulta más útil en la tarea de producción, dados los precios existentes. El comercio permite que los agentes económicos puedan trocar, al precio de mercado, lo que no les brinda suficiente utilidad por aquello que sí desean o se adapta mejor a las necesidades técnicas de la producción. Esto implica que el comercio es un instrumento idóneo para mejorar la asignación de los recursos y, si éstos son mejor asignados, se logrará un mayor bienestar aun cuando la cantidad de recursos esté predeterminada. La capacidad del comercio para mejorar el bienestar y, por ende, para crear valor se hace evidente en dos hechos. El primero es que los intercambios comerciales son voluntarios. Nadie está obligado a realizar una transacción si no lo desea. La segunda es que, en general, organizar las transacciones tiene un costo. El intercambio en los mercados debe ser organizado. Si los agentes incurren en esos costos de transacción es razonable asumir que los beneficios de las partes superan a esos costos.
Los beneficios del intercambio de bienes para el consumo son bastante obvios. Dada nuestra preocupación por el vínculo entre comercio y productividad, vale la pena centrarse en las consecuencias sobre la eficiencia de la producción. Translation - English Exchange of goods and services has economic value because it generates
mutual advantages to the involved parts. In every moment, someone possesses resources. However, given the actual prices, what every economic unit possesses is not necessarily what it desires with greater intensity or what it is more useful in production. Trade allows economic agents to bartering what it is not useful enough for their desires neither to what is better adapted to the technical needs of production. This implies that trade is a suitable instrument to improve the assignment of resources and, if these are better assigned, a greater welfare will be achieved, although the amount of resources could be predetermined. The capacity of trade to improve welfare and, therefore, to create value, is evident in two facts. The first one is that trade exchanges are voluntary. Nobody is forced to make a transaction if they do not want. The second is that, in general, it has a cost to organize transactions. Exchanges in trade should be organized. If the agents fail in this transaction costs it is reasonable to assume that profits of parts exceed these costs. Exchange benefits of goods for consuming are quite obvious. Given our worries about the relation between trade and productivity, it is worthy to concentrate on
the effects about the efficiency of productivity. The main reason for which that relation exists is that exchanges allow specialization of economical units and this specialization push people to learn how to make the productive work with greater efficiency. One of Adam Smith’s most important contributions, the father of the economy, was just that of calling attention on the fact that exchange in markets improve productivity through positive effects on the division of work.
It is obvious that it is possible to organize work’s division without using the
mechanism of markets. A lot of primitive societies with certain sophistication inwork’s division are known, in which there was no trade or it existed on a much reduced scale. Moreover, in modern societies it is possible to observe that there are organizations that divide their work without coordinating them through the market. For example, this happens in the heart of the family, a productive unit of first importance. In this sense, the essential virtue that Smith noticed in the market was not only that of allowing work’s division but that of doing it in an unknown scale in history. The specific virtue of markets is to allow exchanges of great magnitude failing in much reduced transaction costs. For Smith, market is,
before anything, a form of organizing social work without the need of resorting to expensive mechanisms of coordination and information. It is an invisible hand that, through the mechanism of prices, gives information to agents about what and how to produce in order to coordinate activities with the rest.
