Aug 23 helene123: Funny!
Hi,
No.........The meeting agenda includes Translators competing to win my painting by telling a funny translator story.

Aug 23 alvish: OK
Are sunflowers in Quebec funny?

Aug 22 helene123: Let's do it
I am working on my painting of a sunflower field in Quebec, are you working on your funny story???

Aug 6 helene123: Reservations made
At Richtree, 42 Yonge Street.
I made the reservation for 4 P.M. as some of you have to leave before 7 and others can't come until 5 P.M.
Please make sure to note in your calendar.
We need to be at least 15 for making a reservation, so I hope to see you all there.
Hélène

Aug 3 Carolina Alfaro de Carvalho: Confirming
Just to double check:
- Count me in!
- Any time is good, but I also approve the afternoon meeting idea.
- I liked the agenda.
- The date will be September 5, correct? (Talk about planning in advance, heheh)

Aug 3 rantoniomg: Meeting time.
Ideally, lunch time would work best for me. I could accommodate something at 5-ish but I can't really stay after 7pm. I could always just go for a while.
Cheers!

Aug 3 Ken McKerrow: Event Time
Hi - Once again, Richtree is good with me, and later in the day is preferable, ie after 5.

Aug 3 Lynda Tharratt: all in favour.....
say aye! aye... We should also get confirmation from all members who will attend so that the reservation can be made (some people haven't marked the "will attend" column). Looking forward to meeting all of you!

Aug 3 helene123: Let's do it
Hello everyone,
The Richtree seems O.K. to me, I presume the one at 42 Yonge Street. As a phone interpreter I would prefer that we meet later in the day such as 4 or 5 P.M. but if lunch is the preferred time that would be O.K. too, I will try and make reservations once we have agreed on a time.
As for the agenda I thought that we could keep it simple such as.
1) Drop your card in the bowl for the chance to win one of my unknown (For now) paintings
2) Introductions, your specialty, type of work you prefer...whatever
3) Funny translator or interpreter stories
4) Business exchange..........
5) Draw from funniest story and random from cards.

Any other suggestion welcome.
Please respond, as the time is fast approaching.
Hélène

Jul 31 rantoniomg: Richtree / Brookfield
I vote for this as well. This should be really exciting. I look forward to meeting all of you.

Jul 27 Ken McKerrow: Richtree
Hello - I'm also looking forward to the event! In terms of my "notetaking" capacity, I suppose I'll just bring the laptop and record anything noteworthy ;), if anyone has another idea of what 'notetaking' would entail, please let me know. In terms of the location, I think the Richtree suggestion would work nicely. I attend a meeting for German speakers sometimes at a Richtree, it works well for groups (ie the individual payment, price range, large 'seat yourself' section) and it is very central. Are we going to establish any kind of 'agenda' or anything like that? Not that I necessarily think we should..Best

Jul 26 Dmitry Avdeev: Richtree @ Brookfield Place
I strongly support Carolina - it's a nice place, with a good choice of what-to-eat-and-drink, and it also has some semi-private rooms, where we can communicate without shouting at each other :) Though I believe that we'd better book it in advance.

Jul 25 Carolina Alfaro de Carvalho: Another suggestion
Whenever I have to meet casually with many people, I love RichTree at Brookfield Place (http://www.richtree.ca/). Apart from being central and with easy access, the huge range of options can fit everyone's personal budget, as each one gets what they want using the restaurant's card. Payment is individual and simple, too.
(I'm the "keep it simple" type.)

BTW, I really look forward to meeting other translators. I've been in Canada for 1 year.

Jul 7 Lynda Tharratt: Whistler's
This restaurant looks like a good choice. Brunch sounds good! I think a more casual atmosphere is better too and perhaps they could accomodate a larger group in a more quiet section to facilitate discussion. What say ye, fellow attendees?

Jul 5 helene123: Whistlers
This restaurant is on broadview, walking distance from the subway and not far from Cabbagetown, if someone wants to check out the festival. It is reasonnable......
http://whistlers.sites.toronto.com/

Jul 5 Lynda Tharratt: YIKES!
Just checked the menu prices for lunch, wow it is pricy!

Jul 5 Lynda Tharratt: ROM
Personally, I like the idea of the ROM, it's got my vote! And, it's on the subway so that may be handy for some.

Jul 5 Barbara Duffus: Restaurants
I concur that the ROM restaurant is great and expensive. I am a member of the ROM so may be able to negotiate a discount and help get reservation. I will probably know for sure if I can attend or not in a week or two

Jun 24 Hege Jakobsen Lepri: another option
the date chosen also coincides with the Cabbagetown festival, so one of the meny restaurants in the area might be an option (and close to home for me)

Jun 24 Juliana Starkman: Gardiner/ROM
The restaurants are good, if rather expensive (I'll have to raise my rates again). What's great about both is that they're right on the subway, which will make them easier to get to.

Jun 24 Hege Jakobsen Lepri: venues- museum and restaurants
Both the Gardiner Musem and the ROM have great restaurants that could work for the event.

Jun 24 Lynda Tharratt: venues
I think it would be nice if we could meet over a meal (either a picnic or restaurant). I will be coming from out of town so I will probably want to grab a bite to eat anyway. I like the waterfront suggestion but I must confess that I don't know Toronto that well.

Jun 2 helene123: Venue suggestions
I am thinking that of outdoor locations next to indoor locations in case of rain or if we want to get a drink.
1)Wilmot Creek Park at Leslie and Eglinton, on the North-East corner, there used to be the Inn on the Park, I would have to check what it is called now
2) Docks, which also has a new name now, it's in the East end by Cherry street, a bit pricey but a wonderful entertainment complex.
3) I don't know the West-end but there must be lounges or restaurant by the Park
Which would you prefer or make your own suggestions

Jun 1 Nicholas Ferreira: Place to meet and mingle
helene, thanks for your note. It should be a great event. I think most of us go to the powwows to meet other language professionals and network and socialize with them. So a restaurant or informal setting like a lounge might serve our purposes well, perhaps somewhere by the waterfront. I am not overly familiar with the area myself, so perhaps others might have concrete suggestions for a venue...

Jun 1 helene123: Things are looking-up
We now have 2 volunteers for photography and Ken to take notes. I think that by September we may have about 20 people. Please take a few moments and tell me what would be good place to meet and/or what you would like to see happen.
You may write to me at b.e.t.a@rogers.com
Hélène Treloar

May 13 helene123: New guest & photographer
Nicholas Ferreira will attend and volunteered to take pictures.
Thanks Nicholas

May 1 helene123: welcome
looking forward to meeting you and your wife.
